I Love the Color Red

With a swap title like that, how could I resist signing up!!

The fabrics on the I Love Red card are vintage cottons. A tatted heart motif (made by me) and hand embroidery complete the card. The metallic thread of the heart contrasts nicely against the cotton fabric.

On the oriental card, I used a fabric motif printed on silk (received in a crazy quilting swap) and edged it with a fancy fibre. I piece of ribbon attaches a reproduction chinese coin. I also experimented with the edging stitch on this and the butterfly card to ensure a firm edge on fabrics that were prone to unravelling. I worked round them in tight zig-zag before I added the cardboard back, then stitching round again with a zig-zag that produces 1 long stitch to 4 short ones. I'm quite pleased with the effect.

The third card I'm calling my Red Garden. I used a variety of differently textured red fabrics and added the watering can motif. The little flowers are machine embroidery and tiny buttons. I also hand embroidered some water coming from the can :)

Last, but by no means least is the butterfly card. The butterfly is a machine embroidered motif (not by me). I received it in a crazy quilting swap a couple of years ago and it seemed perfect for this theme. It is worked onto a sparkly organza which makes a nice contrast with the duller red fabric. This is actually my DH's favourite card of the four, although the simplest to make :)
